Overview
MFI SHGs use their loans to support small trades and activities. These
provide them with a livelihood which helps them earn an independent
income and pay back their loan. It also helps them develop a strong sense of self worth and confidence.
In many cases, the growth of these enterprises depends crucially on the ability of the SHG members to tap urban markets for their products. In turn these suppliers represent a large supply resource, with significant cost advantages, for urban markets. Today the supply chain is largely fragmented representing an opportunity to be tapped by enterprising corporations. One example of a company that has successfully built a mutually beneficial partnership with our SHGs is Hatsun Agro Products Ltd. Hatsun’s initiatives, especially the simplified supply chain and the zero-delay payment schedules have encouraged higher yields and product improvement, while still maintaining a cost advantage to the company (see section on Dairy)

For a small charge, advertisers can also place enquiries in the MFI Tamil newsletter, MFI Seidhi Malar, which reaches the company’s 5,00,000 SHG members across Tamil Nadu.
