M. Narayanan has 25 years of experience in the banking industry where he has held key positions as Head of Treasury at Bank of Madura and Head of Treasury at the GMR Group, Bangalore. His earlier career led him through a variety of significant roles at Bank of Madura including Head of Mumbai - Main, the largest branch of the Bank, and AGM of Cash Management Services, Merchant Banking and Corporate Banking.
He was also an active member of various committees including Strategic Planning, Investment, Forex and ALCO.
Following the merger of Bank of Madura with ICICI Bank he took on the role of VP of Corporate Banking. He has also worked briefly at Union Bank of California.and at ING Vysya Bank. Today Narayanan, who is also CEO of Madura Micro Finance Ltd., plays a key role in developing MFI' s business strategy.
B. Subbaraju, Advisor
B. Subbaraju came to MFI following almost 35 years with the Bank of Madura where he was instrumental in the revival of the rural branches and initiation of the SHG lending scheme. The first SHGs in the rural banking division of Bank of Madura were formed under his supervision in 1995. Following the merger of Bank of Madura with ICICI Bank he was appointed as Advisor to the Rural and Micro Banking group at ICICI. In 2002 Mr. Subbaraju joined MFI where he oversaw the takeover of ICICI's SHG groups. Following his recent retirement as General Manager, Mr.Subbaraju focuses on building community involvement among the SHG groups to better realize the social and business goals of MFI.
S. Raja Elayakumar, Assistant
General Manager, Group Quality Enhancement
S. Raja Elayakumar came to MFI after almost two decades with Bank of Madura and later ICICI Bank where he held a number of positions that gave him vast exposure to rural lending and credit programmes for poverty alleviation. During this tenure he both evaluated rural based businesses in areas including agriculture, dairy farming, poultry farming, sericulture, horticulture, wasteland development and minor irrigation as well as played an instrumental role in loan recovery. He holds a degree in agriculture and started his career with the State Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Department. In his current role at MFI he develops and implements systems that ensure a uniform quality of SHGs throughout the organization.
K. Manoharan, Asisistant
General Manager, Training
K. Manoharan started his career as an Agricultural/Horticultural Officer with the State Department of Agriculture. He joined the Bank of Madura as Agricultural Officer in charge Rural Credit and built a career in rural banking for 15 years. In later years he worked with the ICICI Bank in the Rural and Micro Banking Group . Manoharan has played an instrumental role in shaping the SHG model both at Bank of Madura and now at MFI. His primary focus today is in running MFI's training college through which MFI's field staff as well as SHG members are trained in banking, business and socially motivated topics.
MR. Narayanan, Assistant General Manager, Income Generation
MR. Narayanan began his career with the State Department of Agriculture where he was responsible for the training and guidance of farmers in improved farm techniques designed to increase crop yields. He played a key role in obtaning World Bank funding for various farmers' markets including the flourishing Koyambedu wholesale market in Chennai. Narayanan then joined the Bank of Madura in the Rural Credit division where he was credited with the formation of the first eight SHGs in 1995. He remained briefly with ICICI Bank following the merger before joining MFI. In his current role he focuses on programs that facilitate the productive deployment of microcredit in income generating activities.
Suguna Swamy, Corporate Relations and Rural Entrepreneur Support
Suguna Swamy came to MFI following a successful career over three decades with Ogilvy and Mather Advertising, where she specialized in both English as well as Indian language marketing communications. She now brings this experience and extensive knowledge of Indian and multinational companies to MFI, to focus on building rural-corporate partnerships with a view towards strengthening the rural to urban supply chain.
